This project is super easy and although I made it for my iPad Mini, it can be made for really any tablet/iPad by measuring your specific device and adding 3 inches to the length and 2 inches to the width.
In this case, an iPad Mini is 7.87 inches tall and 5.3 inches wide, so my dimensions are going to be based off of that.
For our project, I use batting and interfacing to give this case some cushion and stability. If you don't have either of these, you don't necessarily need them - just know that your case will not have any cushion to it, but it will still make a great case!
Materials:
OUTSIDE : 2 pieces - 10″ x 7″ outer fabric and fleece interfacing
INSIDE: 2 pieces - 10″ x 7″ lining fabric and batting (thickness is your preference)
STRAP: 2 pieces - 10″ x 3″ strap fabric and fleece interfacing
BINDING: 1 piece - 20″ x 2″ strip
1 large button
Button hole foot
Thread of your choice
Seam Ripper
Needle
Optional : You can use velcro instead of a button to close your case
Lets begin!
1. Cut out all your fabric pieces
2. Iron your interfacing to the wrong side of the outer fabric & strap fabric
3. Sew on the batting to the wrong side of your lining fabric
4. With right sides together, sew together your lining pieces and outer pieces, leaving the top open on each.
5. Clip your corners & turn your outer piece right side out. Leaving your lining inside out, slide your lining inside your outer piece and make sure your side seams line up with each other. Take your binding piece and fold it inwards on both sides. Iron flat.
7. Fold your binding around the top of your outer fabric/lining, pin than sew on
8. With right sides together, sew the 2 pieces of your strap together. Turn it inside out fold in the end and top stitch it closed.
9. IF YOU ARE USING A BUTTON: Using your botton hole foot, create a button hole wherever you would like it on the strap. Use your seam ripper to rip the fabric, cut loose threads and now you should have a finished strap with a button hole.
IF YOU ARE USING VELCRO: Sew velcro to the underside of the strap and the top of where it will meet the case.
10. Sew your strap to the middle of the back of the case
